Thanks all for commenting on this post. It has obviously struck a chord because loss is common to all- hope to few. Let’s spread the hope.

Great post, Shawn. Joyce was such a special lady. I especially love these words, “As I grow older, the onion of immortality incessantly peels away. People that I love –die. Yet, my confidence in God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice causes my discomfort with death to diminish. The departure of my beloved family and friends feels more like an eventual grand reunion rather than a state of permanent loss.” You need to write more…!

What a great tribute to a very special lady. Allen and Joyce were our pastors in the Albany church mentioned in the tribute, and although we were only around them a few years they impacted us forever. Joyce was who you said and much more.If you read this I would like to hear from you regarding your ministry and how you got going. I am a missionary in Indonesia and feel God is nudging me toward writing more in a little broader venue. Thanks

It is so conflicting to mourn for someone who is so richly rewarded with the joy of His presence and now able to sit at His feet. God has blessed you with those two precious hours before she went home and I know you will treasure them always.
When my Walter went home 15 years ago my comfort was and is remembering where he is now. So glad to have found these notes and to know that you and Cheryl are still serving the Lord.
(yes, kiddo, I knew you back “when”). Hugs to all.

That’s a great memorial to my mom. Thanks so much for the beautiful words about a beautiful lady! When I looked in the bright blue sky today I thought about what she might be doing, knowing she must be so happy & free. But I miss her sweet presence here.

Quite possibly sooner than we expect it to.

While I may be consumed with ‘why did he have to die’ I rest in knowing ‘why it was’ for His son to die and that is really the only death I need be consumed with. The secrets of other’s deaths’ lie with Him.

This is not your average devotional, more like a journey into different paths. Very original and mysterious!
